FMC STATEMENT ON THE TRAGIC PASSING OF CONGRESSWOMAN JACKIE WALORSKI

Washington, DC — Today, the leadership of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC), President L.F. Payne (D-VA) and President-Elect Barbara Comstock (R-VA), as well as FMC’s Congressional Study Group on Germany (CSGG) House Democratic Co-Chair, Congressman Ted Deutch (D-FL), released the following statements on the tragic passing of Congresswoman and CSGG House Republican Co-Chair, Jackie Walorski (R-IN).

“On behalf of FMC’s Board of Directors, staff, membership, and Congressional Study Group on Germany, FMC sends our deepest condolences to Congresswoman Walorski’s family, staff, colleagues, and constituents in Indiana’s Second Congressional District,” said Payne. Through CSGG, our organization had the opportunity to work closely with her. She was an incredibly kind, compassionate, and effective Member of Congress, who always had the people of her District at the forefront of her heart and mind, and her numerous accomplishments show it. Her tragic and untimely passing will leave an irreparable hole in the hearts of so many, including everyone at our organization.”

“I am sick at heart to hear of the tragic loss of my friend, Jackie Walorski. Jackie had such a big heart, a big laugh, and a passion, great love, and skill for public service. My prayers are with her husband, Dean, family, and staff. She will be greatly missed,” said Comstock. FMC is also keeping the families of her District Director, Zachery Potts and Communications Director, Emma Thomson, who passed away as result of the same terrible accident, in our thoughts and prayers. No words can convey how brokenhearted the Congressional community and we are.”

“This is a devastating and shocking loss. Jackie served with distinction as Ranking Member of the Ethics Committee. I was proud to serve alongside her on Committee and to work closely with her on the Congressional Study Group on Germany. I valued her insights and appreciated her leadership,” said Rep. Deutch. “As partisan as Congress has become, it is still a family, and this loss hits close to home. Jackie Walorski was a colleague and a friend. She cared deeply about the House and about her constituents, and she will be dearly missed by all of us. My sincere condolences to Jackie’s family, staff, and community back home and to the families of her staffers, Emma and Zach.”

FMC is a nonpartisan alliance of more than 800 Former U.S. Senators and Representatives, which houses the Congressional Study Group on Germany (CSGG). Walorski served as CSGG House Republican Co-Chair since the beginning of 2021.
