For more than 50 years, FMC has served as the premier vehicle to keep Former Members of Congress engaged in government and connected to each other after their federal public service has ended. Our longevity is a testament to the immense knowledge and contributions to society of the nearly 800 former lawmakers that make up our membership.

Receptions

After serving in Congress, most Former Members leave the DC area and return to their home districts or states to work in a variety of fields and for local causes. That’s why we periodically hold receptions to reconnect former colleagues with each other, as well as introduce them to Members they either never served with or didn’t know while in Congress. Recently, we held one of these receptions for Former and Retiring Members in Washington, DC, where we had a fantastic turnout. Click on the image to view more photos from our recent event.

Panels & Roundtables

Our Members have the best policy minds in nearly every imaginable area — from defense to tax policy to transportation to foreign affairs — and after decades of campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels, they have unique insight into campaign politics and have their fingers on the political pulse of their respective states and districts. We routinely organize panels and roundtables featuring our membership to showcase their knowledge in these areas. We hold these events for a variety of audiences, including public officials, business leaders, academics, diplomats, and the general public.

Study Tours

Former Members of Congress still have a great deal to offer the leadership of nations outside the United States. With centuries of combined legislative experience, Former Members are frequently requested by academic institutions, businesses and other organizations, as well as by foreign governments, to provide knowledge about politics in the United States, the work being done by Congress, how to deal with groups in the United States, and how our form of government came to be. This summer a bipartisan delegation traveled to South Korea. Click on the image to view photos from that study tour.

Annual Membership Meetings

Each year, FMC invites our entire membership to come together either in Washington, DC or in different parts of the country to learn about FMC’s recent work, attend events, spend time together, and meet with business leaders. This year, we traveled to New York City with a group of 40 Former Members and spouses where we held a reception and program at the historic Federal Hall, visited the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum and the 9/11 Museum & Memorial, and much more! Memorial Service

Every year, we honor our Members who have passed away in the previous twelve months by holding our annual Memorial Service in the U.S. Capitol’s Statuary Hall. We invite their families, friends, former staffers, and other loved ones to join us for the meaningful ceremony. We are routinely honored to have House and Senate leadership from both sides of the aisle participate in the ceremony. Click on the image to view photos from our most recent Memorial Service.
