FMC Welcomes New Leadership
President Charles Boustany takes over association Board

(Washington, DC) — FMC, the association of former Members of Congress, today completed a changeover in the leadership of the association, which was founded 50 years ago.

The organizations 37th President is former U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.), who takes over from immediate past President Martin Frost (D-Tex.). FMC is led by a President from alternating parties, who are term-limited to a two year period of service. The alternating party is a nod to FMC’s focus on bipartisanship.

The leadership team will also see former U.S. Rep. L.F. Payne (D-Va.) elevated to President-Elect. Payne will take over from Boustany in 2022. The newly created positions of Vice President for Membership will be filled by former U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R-N.Y.) and Vice President for Programming by former U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.).

"I am excited to take over as President of FMC at a time when the association is creating more valuable programming than ever, toward a mission of bipartisan solutions that is so critical at this time in our nation's history," said Boustany. "Martin Frost has left incredibly difficult shoes to fill, but I will certainly give it my all. I look forward to continuing his good work, and help the staff and stakeholders of FMC build on his accomplishments."

Frost will continue to work with the organization as immediate past President.

“Martin Frost was a champion for FMC who worked, hand in hand with our staff, to make this association more effective, more responsive and more inclusive of all former Members of Congress,” said Pete Weichlein, CEO of FMC. “I have treasured his leadership and counsel. I am also excited to get a chance to work with Charles Boustany, who will help continue the fine work we have done in the past, while imbuing the association with his unique leadership style and ideas for our future. I welcome Charles with open arms, from a proper distance of course, and look forward to moving ahead.”

Boustany, Payne, Edwards and Buerkle will preside over a Board of Directors which has also seen a slight change with the addition of former U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) and former U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.).

FMC is a non-advocacy, non-partisan organization founded in 1970 and chartered by Congress in 1983. It is a voluntary alliance of former U.S. Senators and Representatives, working, pro bono, to strengthen Congress in the conduct of its Constitutional responsibility through promoting a collaborative approach to policy making; and to deepening the understanding of our democratic system.
