HOULAHAN JOINS CONGRESSIONAL STUDY GROUP ON EUROPE AS HOUSE DEMOCRATIC CO-CHAIR
Washington, DC — Former Members of Congress (FMC) announced today that U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) will join the Congressional Study Group on Europe (CSGE) as its new House Democratic Co-Chair. Houlahan will work alongside CSGE’s House Republican Co-Chair Bill Huizenga (R-MI), as well as Senate Co-Chairs John Boozman (R-AR) and Chris Murphy (D-CT).
“I’m excited to lead this bipartisan effort and work together with my colleagues as we strive for security and prosperity in the transatlantic space,” said Houlahan. “Pennsylvania is a hub for investment and innovation, and benefits tremendously from a strong transatlantic relationship. I look forward to collaborating with CSGE House and Senate leadership to strengthen and grow our ties with our closest allies in Europe.”
“I’m delighted to welcome Congresswoman Houlahan to CSGE as my fellow Co-Chair,” said Huizenga. “The transatlantic relationship is a cornerstone of American national security and our partnership with our European allies is key to safeguarding American interests. I’m proud to work alongside my CSGE colleagues to develop these crucial partnerships.”
“We’re honored that Congresswoman Houlahan will join us in leading this vital Study Group,” said the Hon. Barbara Comstock, FMC President. “Her leadership on the Armed Services Committee and her commitment to bipartisan solutions in Congress showcases her preparedness for this position. We look forward to bringing her expertise on board and applying it to CSGE.”
Houlahan has served as the Representative for Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District since 2019. She is a U.S. Air Force veteran and a graduate of both Stanford University and MIT University. Houlahan serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence, and serves as the Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Military Personnel. She was awarded FMC’s House Statesmanship Award in 2024 in recognition of her bipartisanship and civic service.
The Congressional Study Group on Europe was established in 2011 to help facilitate transatlantic dialogue through legislative exchanges for Members and the staff of the U.S. Congress. It compliments the Congressional Study Groups on Germany, Japan, Korea, and India in aiming to increase dialogue among key decisionmakers
CSGE benefits from a strong relationship with members of FMC’s Diplomatic Advisory Council (DAC), whose European Ambassadors regularly host conversations alongside our CSGE Co-Chairs about timely issues impacting the transatlantic relationship. The Study Group also hosts programming on Capitol Hill and throughout DC with current and Former Members of Congress, congressional staff, members of the diplomatic community, and more to foster open dialogue on the dominant issues on the European continent.
Houlahan will take over as House Democratic Co-Chair of CSGE from Representative Deborah Ross (D-NC), who recently moved to become Co-Chair of FMC’s newest Congressional Study Group on India.
FMC is a non-advocacy, nonpartisan group founded in 1970 and chartered by Congress in 1983. It is a voluntary alliance of Former U.S. Senators and Representatives, working to strengthen Congress in the conduct of its Constitutional responsibility through promoting a collaborative approach to policy making; and to deepening the understanding of our democratic system.
