FMC STATEMENT ON THE ASSASSINATION OF FORMER JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER ABE

Washington, DC — Today, Peter Weichlein, CEO of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC), a nonpartisan alliance of more than 800 Former U.S. Senators and Representatives which houses the Congressional Study Group on Japan (CSGJ), released the following statement on the assassination of Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Weichlein said, “On behalf of FMC’s Board of Directors, staff, membership, and Congressional Study Group on Japan, FMC sends our deepest condolences to the people of Japan and all those who knew Prime Minister Abe personally. Through CSGJ, our organization had the privilege to work and meet with the Prime Minister and his wife numerous times throughout the years. He was a strong proponent of CSGJ’s legislative exchange efforts and a close U.S.-Japan relationship; always working diligently to strengthen our crucial alliance. We are deeply saddened by his untimely passing and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this terrible tragedy.”
