Alexis Ayano Terai joined FMC in June 2015 as the Congressional Study Group on Japan Fellow and now serves as an Senior Programs Officer.
She holds a BA in Political Science with a minor in French and Francophone Studies from Macalester College in Minnesota. Born in Pasadena, CA, Alexis was raised in Tokyo before coming to Minnesota as a Grew-Bancroft scholar. She also studied at Sciences Po Paris during Fall 2013.
In addition to her work and studies involving US-Japan relations, Alexis has worked in journalism and is interested in political communication. Her past work experience includes positions with the office of the Honorable Kono Taro, a member of the House of Representatives of Japan, the Foreign Commercial Service at the US Embassy in Tokyo, Reuters Tokyo Bureau, and TV Asahi DC Bureau. Her senior capstone, presented at the Midwest Political Science Association Conference in April 2015, focused on Japan’s strategic use of soft power in its recent diplomacy.
