FMC Mourns Former Association President Jack Buechner
Former Member from Missouri Dies at 79

(Washington, D.C.) - FMC, the association of former Members of Congress, mourns the death of its former President, John William “Jack” Buechner, who led the organization from 2004 – 2006. We extend our condolences to Jack’s family and many friends during this sad time.

Buechner represented Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District from 1987 – 1991, after a decade of service in the Missouri House of Representatives. Following Congress, he continued his focus on public policy and public service in leadership roles with the International Republican Institute and The Presidential Classroom for Young Americans. Throughout his professional career, he strove to engage America’s next generation of leaders and to be an ambassador on behalf of representative democracy at home and abroad.

His leadership of FMC was instrumental in the organization’s growth and expansion. During Buechner’s term, FMC grew its staff, programming and budget. In 2004, Buechner implemented an election observation project in Ukraine, which saw bipartisan teams of former Members of Congress monitor both Ukraine’s campaign as well as Ukraine’s election. In addition, he enlarged FMC’s international portfolio, including implementing legislative exchanges throughout the world.

Most importantly, Buechner was a caring and approachable mentor for FMC’s staff throughout his Presidency and beyond. Following his term as FMC President, Jack Buechner stayed actively involved in FMC, and co-chaired its premier domestic program: Congress to Campus.

Pete Weichlein, CEO of FMC, said: “with Jack Buechner, America has lost an outstanding and dedicated public servant, and FMC and I have lost a dear friend.”
